Description:

The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) highest priority is the welfare and protection of United States (U.S). citizens at foreign locations, supporting border security at home, and facilitating safe entry of travelers without compromising U.S security. CA issues passports to U.S. citizens, issues immigrant and non-immigrant visas to foreign nationals, and serves American citizens during life’s important moments— births, deaths, disasters, and medical emergencies abroad. CA ensures responsive and efficient Consular services overseas and effective passport operations domestically.

The Office of Consular Systems Technology (CST) within the Bureau of CA is tasked with designing, installing, operating and supporting Information Technology (IT) systems and supporting infrastructure required by CA’s global mission. This includes the Hardware (HW)/ Software (SW) platforms on which the CA systems reside and operate as well as providing operational support for CA applications and databases. Currently, CA applications and systems are modernized through the ConsularOne program. 

 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Designs and plans network communications systems for firewalls and overall security posture.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network firewalls.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Presents configuration changes to the Firewall Advisory Board

Requirements

  • SECRET Clearance
  • At least 1 of the following Network Certification: CCDP, CCNP-Voice, CCNP-Routing/Switching, or CCNA-Security
  • At least 1 of the following Cyber Certifications: CompTIA: A+, Network+ or Security+

 

Optional Requirements

  • MCITIP: Server Administrator, MCSA
