The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) highest priority is the welfare and protection of United States (U.S). citizens at foreign locations, supporting border security at home, and facilitating safe entry of travelers without compromising U.S security. CA issues passports to U.S. citizens, issues immigrant and non-immigrant visas to foreign nationals, and serves American citizens during life’s important moments— births, deaths, disasters, and medical emergencies abroad. CA ensures responsive and efficient Consular services overseas and effective passport operations domestically.

The Office of Consular Systems Technology (CST) within the Bureau of CA is tasked with designing, installing, operating and supporting Information Technology (IT) systems and supporting infrastructure required by CA’s global mission. This includes the Hardware (HW)/ Software (SW) platforms on which the CA systems reside and operate as well as providing operational support for CA applications and databases. Currently, CA applications and systems are modernized through the ConsularOne program. 


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Systems Storage Administrator - Support storage solutions globally including but not limited to, enterprise block, object and network attached storage, and managing multiple Storage Area Networks (SANs) housing multiple petabytes of data.  
  • Provides technical oversight of hardware and software systems, with a focus on Storage Area Network administration.
  • Provide professional service within the parameters specified in the site's service level agreement and/or that meet or exceed the customer requirements.
  • Monitor system utilization including data storage management, performance metrics and service levels.
  • Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data.
  • Develop and maintain an automated environment including reporting, event notifications and actions, software updates and service packs.
  • Report on capacity and do proactive planning for additional storage.
  • Allocates storage to servers, configuring fiber channel switches, and capacity planning for the SAN, in addition to OS level support related to implementing and maintaining system security and data recovery processes, providing technical support, utilizing automation tools for delivering applications, managing assets, monitoring performance, event notifications and automating desktop support.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications and schedule information.
  • Perform account maintenance.
  • Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data.
  • Software installations/upgrades.
  • Patching and IAVA compliance.
  • Troubleshoots network communications.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing a Storage Manager server/client environments; performing systems modeling, simulation, and analysis; developing documentation (including SOPs) on new or existing systems; developing and conducting tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements; applying quarterly security patches to assigned Storage Manager production; remotely monitoring and managing system alerts and notifications; tracking licensing and maintenance requirements associated with growth; planning upgrades of operating systems and designing system enhancements.
