The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) highest priority is the welfare and protection of United States (U.S). citizens at foreign locations, supporting border security at home, and facilitating safe entry of travelers without compromising U.S security. CA issues passports to U.S. citizens, issues immigrant and non-immigrant visas to foreign nationals, and serves American citizens during life’s important moments— births, deaths, disasters, and medical emergencies abroad. CA ensures responsive and efficient Consular services overseas and effective passport operations domestically.
The Office of Consular Systems Technology (CST) within the Bureau of CA is tasked with designing, installing, operating and supporting Information Technology (IT) systems and supporting infrastructure required by CA’s global mission. This includes the Hardware (HW)/ Software (SW) platforms on which the CA systems reside and operate as well as providing operational support for CA applications and databases. Currently, CA applications and systems are modernized through the ConsularOne program.
Responsibilities & Duties (Applications Support Specialist)
First level support working under direct supervision.
Performs installation/deployment support of Consular Affairs (CA) supported applications for systems operating across the CA IT global enterprise.
Applies the Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) approach and DevSecOps model.
Supports Deployment Readiness Review (DRR) activities for identified applications as required by the Department of State.
Confirms operational readiness prior to transitioning new applications, or major application upgrades to support.
Deploys CA applications and COTS software at operational sites using a DevSecOps or CI/CD tools, as appropriate.
Works with other CST installation and support specialists to establish and implement the configuration parameters that optimize operating system performance on CA's desktops and servers.
Tracks and reports on deployment status of applications.
Researched, scheduled, and monitored the completion of ASRs by the application support team.
Requested and formatted reports for the client. Coordinated with development, QC, and CM teams on releases.
Conducts a Post-Implementation Reviews and write a reports that detailed the results.
Analyzes and categorizes user feedback for the ARM application. Wrote several documents - design documents, test scripts, user guides, system documentation.
Coordinated between customers, developers, quality control team, and management.
Researched and monitored customer requests for enhancements and bug reports.
Assisted in testing enhancements and bug fixes before notifying customer and sending instructions for their testing.
